Madrid is the perfect city if you're obsessed with food but also great to spend a weekend visiting museums, strolling, shopping or if you like parks and botanic gardens. We loved our time in Madrid and found so many great places that I'd like to share with you below! x

Federal Cafe:

The best breakfast in Madrid (and probably the most Instagramable). The menu is varied with a wide choice of pastries, toasties, avo on toast, eggs, fresh juices and coffee. The place itself is beautiful, if you're a fan of interior design this cafe will give you major envy, I was really tempted to leave with the tables and stools...

Mercado de San Miguel:

If you're going to Madrid you probably already planned to go to Mercado de San Miguel. I am not the biggest fan of Spanish markets as I don't think you find the best eats but it's still worth a quick stop. I loved the fish tapas from La casa de Bacalao, the pickled herring was my favourite, I loved it so much that I went back twice.

Babelia:

We had lunch with a friend of my boyfriend who lives in Madrid and recommended this place just by her studio in the lovely Salamanca area. What you see on the picture is a Burrata salad, an octopus dish and my favorite tapas patatas bravas all three were beyond delicious.

Rocambolesc:

El Corto Ingles recently launched a two floor space at the top of a building in Salamanca called the Gourmet experience dedicated to gourmet food. You get to try some of Madrid most talented chef's creations on a rooftop. The top floor has two restaurants and Jordi Roca's gelateria. You can choose from a variety of 100% natural ice creams served in a choice of pots, cone or panet. Do not leave that place without trying the panet, it's a warm bun that you can have filled with your choice of ice cream and three toppings. It tastes like a mix of croissant and warm brioche filled with cold ice cream, it's amazing!

  • Streetxo:

avid Munoz is Spain's only chef to have been awarded three Michelin stars, best known for his DiverXo, Streetxo is the baby sister located on the top floor of El Corto Ingles Gournet Experience, next to Rocambolesc (see above) it was our favorite meal of the trip a must go! Expect modern fusion spanish food with asian influences.

  • Salon Cascabel:

lso located in El Corte Ingles Gourmet experience, Salon Cascabel is best described as a gourmet mexican tapas bar. The cocktails and the food are delicious, perfect for pre -drinks and nibbles before heading for diner next door at Streetxo and finishing with Jordi Roca's delicious ice cream.

Calle de Serrano, 52, 28001 Madrid, Spain

  • Casa de Lucio:

One of the most famous places in Madrid, with a long list of celebrities clients. It's a traditional spanish bistro, their most famous dish is called "broken eggs" a sort of scrambled eggs with home made fries. We had the tastiest steak cooked to perfection, the food is simple and comforting. We had a lovely evening at this place and the staff was so welcoming. We left really full and happy, highly recommended!

  • Espagna en lata

e stumbled upon this lovely gourmet shop during our last day in Madrid, I bought a limited edition of Olive oil covered in Juan Miro's art and produced in his home town, I sadly ran out but kept the beautiful bottle. You can find every possible traditional Spanish produce including canned fish and saffron, this place is perfect to find presents for friends and family.

  • La Chinata

I loved this place so much, perfect to find local presents to bring back for friends and family. All the products are around Olives and smells amazing, there is a wide range of cosmetics and culinary products and the most delicious candles. We bought the best Fig candle from this shop, it was so incredible that they run out and we had to beg to buy the display one.
